At The Hellenic Hub we are a friendly bunch; we welcome – and read – all applications. We do get lots, though, so please be patient for a response. A couple of factors will greatly increase your chance of a successful application:
A commitment to tutoring for a minimum of one year
Teaching experience – either in the classroom or as a private tutor
A strong academic record
A passion for education
Please bear in mind that applicants with unpredictable schedules are not looked upon favourably by clients.
The Hellenic Hub has a rigorous selection procedure. Besides the essential background checks (enhanced DBS, verifying qualifications and collecting references) the selection process is as follows:
Tutors submit an application, and are considered on their experience, how long they can commit for, and their academic record. All tutors we take on are interviewed face-to-face.
Who are The Hellenic Hub’s tutors?
Our tutors are dedicated to their work, and have received outstanding evaluations from their students. Most are committed to tutoring for the longer term. They are usually well aware of their plans for the next couple of years, and use tutoring as their main source of income around vocational plans. The combination of their teaching experience and subject knowledge enables teachers to be highly effective in the one-to-one environment.
The Hellenic Hub is singular in its commitment to professionalise tutoring. We have attracted tutors who see tutoring as a career, and behave accordingly. They train regularly, always looking for ways to improve their craft; most importantly, they have a long-term, committed professional disposition.
The following arrangements are understood and agreed by both parties:
Once a tutoring position has been confirmed, you are entering into a contract between you (the Tutor) and the client (the Student, or the student’s Parent/Guardian). THH Tuition Limited (THH) acts as agent on behalf of the tutor and the student.
The terms of contract entered into by you with the Client shall be in the form provided by THH unless otherwise agreed by THH. Upon signature of the form by the Client, you will return the form to THH duly signed by you.
The Tutor shall work for a trial period for a block of ten lessons and this shall be the probationary period. The employment may be terminated by the tutor or THH on one-month notice in writing at any time during or at the immediate end of the probationary period or by payment in lieu of notice. If the THH deems it appropriate this probationary period may be extended by giving notice to the tutor in writing.
Place of Work
The tutor should be ready and willing to work at various venues suitable for learning; these may include different locations and not limited to the client’s premises. Public spaces such as public libraries, museums or cafés may also be used if mutual agreement is reached regarding the time and the environment.
Sickness/ Inability to attend
Should a tutor fall ill or should any serious health-related reason affect his work or should he/she be unable to attend a lesson then the tutor should notify immediately the Founders of THH in order to take all necessary action in ensuring that the client will be informed as early as possible and to reschedule any pending or missed lessons.
In consideration of THH providing you with students, you are not permitted to make private arrangements for tuition with clients introduced by THH or with new clients introduced by THH clients. Should you breach this obligation, you will be liable to account to THH for all sums received by you from the client/new client without deduction and THH shall be entitled to obtain an injunction against you to prevent further breaches. This obligation shall continue notwithstanding termination of this Agreement.
Any work referred to a tutor by a client of THH must be billed through THH on your behalf.
Each tutor should provide THH with an updated profile to be used on our website. This should include some basic information about the tutor’s qualification and also clearly stating the subjects and levels the tutor is able to teach.
THH will agree the fee structure directly with the Client with the Tutor not being involved in the process at all.
As part of the service, THH will collect the fees due from students and passing them on to you, net of a commission. THH invoices clients on behalf of tutors, based on time sheets submitted through email.
Please ensure that you fill in your time sheets after each lesson and that both you and the Client (Student or Parent) sign it. If you are late completing these time sheets or there is incorrect information on them your payment may be delayed. Payments will only be made once the invoices have been paid by the client. You must keep your time sheet up to date. THH recommends that tutors keep a signed record of all lessons taught (or cancelled with less than 24hrs notice) and expenses agreed with client (signed by client after each lesson). We do not need to see this but if a client disputes hours that are invoiced we will be unlikely to be able to pay tutors if this record has not been signed.
Payment are made by the Client to the HHH, and they are sent an invoice once the payment for 10 lessons has been completed. You should not be paid directly by the client. Should you do so, all sums received by you will be immediately payable to THH and shall be actionable through the Courts without further notice to you.
You are responsible for duly paying the tax and national insurance contributions which are due from you whether in the United Kingdom or elsewhere in relation to the payments made to you by THH under this Agreement. You further agree to indemnify THH in respect of all and any income tax and national insurance contributions which may be found due from THH on any payments made to you under this agreement together with any interest, penalties or gross-up thereon.
If you buy books for the Students, please keep receipts so you can return them to the store if the client does not want to buy them. Travel within central London is not charged. Any expenses incurred by you without the agreement of the client will not be reimbursed to you.
Both the client and the tutor must notify the other in advance of any holiday commitments they may have as well as on and any changes to the tuition timetable necessary due to an illness, in which case an alternative date will be arranged. There is a 24 hour cancellation policy based on which THH will charge the Client should the lesson is cancelled at short notice. You need to have agreed on this with the client before THH will charge for them.
THH do not accept any liability for any claims by the client arising out of or related to the carrying out of the tutoring by you and you agree to indemnify THH without limit in respect of any such claims.
You undertake that you shall not at any time during this agreement, and for a period of three years after termination of this agreement, disclose to any person any confidential information concerning the business, affairs, customers, clients or suppliers of THH, except that you may disclose THH’s confidential information as may be required by law, court order or any governmental or regulatory authority.
You shall not use THH’s confidential information for any purpose other than to perform your obligations under this agreement.
Data Protection Act
THH uses tutor data for the purposes of the services that it provides. Tutors providing personal data consent to the use of that data by THH for the purpose of effecting introductions to clients, for billing and fee collecting purposes and to enable THH to contact when necessary.
THH reserves the right to alter this agreement, however notifying you of any changes in writing .
Unless otherwise agreed in writing by a Director of THH, this agreement shall prevail over any other terms of business or conditions put forward by you.
No variation or alteration of this agreement shall be valid unless approved in writing by a Director of THH.
